Mountains and Power Lines

Watercolor on 11x14" Paper
I recently purchased some watercolors and this was my attempt at trying them out. I really enjoyed the result and I feel that it is already one of my favorite pieces. At first I didn't know if I liked the power lines in the scene, but they look much more awkward in the photo I painted this from than the way the painting turned out. This is in the Mountains of Romania above the town of Sinaia.

Trying out Canvas

Mixed Media, 16x20" on Canvas
Recently I purchased some larger canvases and I loved them so much that I went back for more. Here are two pieces I have created. The one above is a scene from Holy Hill near Hartford, Wisconsin. The one below is of Potato Lake way "up North" near Weyerhauser, Wisconsin. These were some enjoyable pieces to create, and my sister has already taken dibs on the one above.

Ink

Roadside Mountains in Ink

The drawing above is rather small, 10x12.5" including the frame, while the one below is much larger, 22x30". The scene above is from the mountains in Romania (seems to be a pretty common subject for me) while the one below is from a photo I took in the Southern Kettle Moraine Unit, a State Park about a half hour from where I live.

Two Landscapes

Oconomowoc Corn Field in Gouache
The corn field above was done in a moment of inspiration just before leaving for work, and then finished later.

The one below I did, for the most part, after work one day while tired and on my way to bed. I missed drawing a lot at the time and was quite busy, but I took the time to put it together anyway. This is from a scene in the Romanian mountain region of Transylvania.

Peak at my Sketchbook

This horse is created from an idea of mine. I journal often, usually while praying because my mind gets too distracted to talk to God for very long without something to retain my focus, and writing is a good tool for that. But I thought one day it would be cool to create a drawing that incorporates words. This isn't really a finished piece, but it conveys the idea.

Another idea I've had for a long time (and I'm not sure I even quite nailed it yet) is to draw someone walking down a sidewalk or a path in the rain carrying an umbrella. I think I could portray it better than this, but again, it captures the concept and conveys the mood. One day I'll have to try again on a larger paper or canvas and put a little more depth into it.

Gypsy kids from Caramidari Pencil on Paper 8x10"
These two drawings were created with the hope of being sold some day, but they are still in my possession. The drawing above is valued at $45, the one below will be valued at about $60 once it's in a frame.

Daniel Answers and Waves (but not that kind)

The first painting here is copied from a masterpiece called Daniel's Answer to the King by Briton Riviere.

The second and third paintings was because of a request by a friend of mine to hang in her house. I didn't like how the first one was turning out, so I started over. The final result is the one on top, while the one beneath is still in my possession.

For and With Kids

I now work as a full time nanny for a local family with seven kids who are all a year apart, and the oldest child is 7 years old. Sometimes I have time to draw and color with them. Here are two pictures I did at work. The one on top is from a giant coloring book. I used their markers to fill it in and it probably took an hour or two to complete. It helped that the kids were napping for part of this time.

The drawing below I created for the three year old boy whose favorite Star Wars character is Darth Vader. It was done with a Sharpie. The design was copied from his Darth Vader notebook, so no, the composition is not my own.

Sinaia Romania Set

Last Summer I took a day trip into the mountains of Romania. That day made my year. I took some snapshots and these are my paintings of a couple of them. I made them the other day instead of doing my homework, but it was a pretty great way to procrastinate!
