Modes of Transportation: New and Old

Today I have two drawings for you. A pencil drawing of a gypsy horse from a photo I took in the village of Roseti in Romania; and a marker drawing of an old car from a photo I found off the internet.

I like the pencil drawing for all the textures I had to represent. It was a fun challenge.

I'm not very accustomed to using marker, so this is my attempt at that. I did some touch-ups with pencil, paint and even some oil pastels. My inspiration came from walking around an old car show the other day.

Hopefully this isn't the last old car I draw. They make a great subject.

Please enjoy!

Fishers (remix)

Pen and Marker
The last time I drew this, it was in pen and ink. This time I've used a different effect.

Little Kid

Pen and Marker.
I didn't realize until just now, really, that I made his head kind of lopsided. Anyway, hope you like it.

Fratele Meu

Pen and pencil. Unfinished drawing.
This is my brother. It turned out pretty good, but all my friends say he looks kind of creepy here.

Stork

Acrylic paint.
This was for a school assignment. I'm going to be downgraded a little for it though, because I left too many visible pencil lines. My teachers don't like that... But overall, I like how it turned out. I hope you like it.

Too many dots

Pen drawing with stippling. 5.5x8.5"
This style is unusual for me. I don't typically like stippled pen work. But I decided to try it this time. The face is hypothetical.

Vali and Emilia

Pencil and Pen.
This is a portrait of some friends of mine in Romania. I really should find some way to crop out the edges of these before posting.

Animator

Pencil Sketch.
This is of a very good friend of mine. She, like me, is an artist but more of an animator and has a special talent for cartoon drawing that I don't possess. You can see her work here: http://amandapfeiffer.tumblr.com/

Not Mine

Sharpie on a sheet from a legal pad.
Ok, so I didn't draw this one. But my nephew who's three drew this picture and I love kids artwork just about as much as I like making art. The guy with the long hair is supposed to be my brother who, by the way, has very short hair.

Black Hills

Goache 9x12"
This is from a photo I took while traveling through South Dakota and Wyoming with my mom and dad a few years ago. I may add some touch ups, but I really love how it turned out. So please enjoy.

By the request of a friend have I drawn this horse from a photo her sister took of their horse. Please enjoy!

Staring

Pastel Drawing on Grey Paper. 4.5x6"
I began a drawing of this boy when I was in Romania, but didn't finish it because when the Church service started, I told him to sit forward instead of staring at me. But I've finally finished a new drawing of him, so enjoy.

Young Lady

Acrylic Paint. Approximately 5x7"
This was experimental. I mixed the paints on the paper and was only using black, white, brown and yellow.

Johnny Depp

This was done by request last year, but I had never posted it. But now it's finally here.

"My! You're Practically A Lady!"

O fata fromoasa! 9x6 Charcoal on grey paper.
I love this little girl!! Her name is Naomi and she's four years old. One time when I was at her house, she braided my hair. :) My title today is from Sound Of Music when Maria is introduced to the youngest girl, Gretl. When asked how old she was, she holds up five fingers to which Maria responds, "My! You're practically a lady!" Gretl is clearly bursting with pride from this comment.

Attractive Tractor

Pastel drawing on yellow paper. 12x9"
I made this for my friend for her birthday. What can I say, she's eighteen now and I think it's about time she had a tractor of her own.

Keith Urban

Keith Urban, pen and ink, 9x12.
This is upon request by my little brother. Keith Urban is one of his favorite country singers. I didn't get his face quite right, but I was working from a very small picture. I might do another drawing of this one some time because I'm not altogether pleased by the outcome.

Baiat Din Chiselet

Goache. 9x12:
This is a boy who was camera shy for one reason. He's missing his two front teeth. This is my attempt at painting him. I stopped a little early because this was the second try and I was a little tired of trying to get his face right.

Castelul Bran

Bran Castle (Castelul Bran) Pen and Ink. 9x9"
You've probably seen other drawings of this same castle. Here is just another effect on a familiar subject.

Standing on a Fence

Red and Black Ink. 9x12
I took this picture of my friends a few months ago. I didn't consider drawing it until I'd seen a story book in my mom's collection called "Cat Sank!" which has very simplistic illustrations but describes decorations and metal grates on architecture etc. I saw in this photo the designs in the fence and on the light post and decided to put it into a drawing. I like how the girls turned out looking active and not sitting still as most of my portraits tend to be.

Sketch Book

I thought I would show you a few pages of my sketch book today. You can see how plain a drawing looks when you first start out.

These to your left are some sketches I did while watching an old black and white movie from the 1930's which explains styles etc.
This was done while hanging out with some friends of mine. I wanted to draw people who weren't sitting still, but that's all the people were doing.
Here I was drawing, as usual, and someone's like "I dare you to draw my dad," so I did. Then he demonstrated his drawing skills (the character labeled 'Nate').

Wisconsin Scenes

Pastel drawing.

Acrylic paint.
The drawing on top is from something I took on my camera phone. My artist friend helped me put graffiti in the sky because I thought it would have a fun effect. The painting below I did a few months ago and it was mostly just for experimental purposes and I wasn't used to paints yet. I was driving in the car one day and noticed just how the sky was so blue next to the trees which were such a bland color brown and thought it was an interesting color combo.

Georgica

Pastel Drawing. 9x12 inches
This one I wanted to focus more on her hair. That's why you see so much of it.

Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle)

Mixed media. Aprox. 9x9 inches
This was an experiment. I have to admit to you right away that I printed the castle off the internet, so I can't receive credit for drawing it accurately. But I painted green and red onto the roof and the trees, cut out tracing paper to put over the trees in the distance, cut the horizon and the roofs of the building from the sky and glued that to a yellow page which I had partially painted with blue. Then for added affect, I put writing all over it. It turned out looking kind of messy and busy, but sometime I'll post one that I actually drew. :)

Mama Wyah

Pastel drawing. 9x12
This lady is so sweet. Nothing made me miss Romania more than when I drew her. She would have people stay in her house and she would cook for us. She served us some delicious stuffed cabbage, stuffed peppers, some sort of a flat bread, and coffee. She also made me breakfast a couple of times. And she was always just so nice to everybody. Yeah, I miss her a lot. I've also done a pencil drawing of her and I might post that sometime.

Romanian Villager (2 versions)

Pastel drawing. 9x12

Goache Paint. 9x12
Here are two more versions of the Romanian Villager. I know you're all probably wondering why I keep drawing this guy and it's just because his face had so much character to it that I had to draw it. So I've tried it in three different mediums so far. You may remember the charcoal drawing I did of him awhile back. I hope you like it.

Ronald with a Smile

Pencil. 14x17"
This one doesn't require much explanation. I did it this Summer and I like it for the strong lighting and the details in his wrinkles and facial features. When doing something with this much detail, it can be easy to ruin the facial expression, but I'm glad for how this one turned out. Enjoy.

Fishing

Pen and Ink. 11x13.5"
This is from a photo I took on the Danube. I hope you like it.

Portrait of a Dude

Pencil. 5.5x8.5"
The one above is the one I like better of these two. But because I'm being honest with you that my artwork doesn't always look as great as it could, I'm posting the one below. You can see in the pastel how badly I messed up the mouth and hand area. The print I was referring to had bad lighting. So I began over again with the one above and used some photos on the computer which had better lighting to correct his profile. I decided that I wanted it to have a sketched feeling, so I scribbled for his shirt and did a lot of hatching to achieve this.

Trees against Red (2 versions)

Goache paint. 9x12"

Goache and acrylic paints. 9x12"
Here are two paintings of the same thing. I added different effects for things like bark and leaves. Several people have asked me why the bottoms of the trees are white and why I put red in the background. The answer is very simple. The trees were in front of a red building and Romanians paint the bottoms of almost all their trees white. I think someone said it was to keep bugs away or something. Please enjoy!
